What is TF-CBT?
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is a type of therapeutic treatment designed to help individuals who have experienced a traumatic event. TF-CBT uses cognitive and behavioral techniques to address the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors resulting from the trauma. It focuses on helping individuals understand, process, and cope with their traumatic experience and its associated symptoms. It also provides skills for managing strong emotions, improving relationships, and creating healthier coping strategies. With TF-CBT, individuals can gain insight into their traumatic experience, learn to manage difficult emotions, and build healthier relationships.

I am one of 37 providers in the state that are nationally certified in TF-CBT, and only 5 other therapists in NWA are nationally certified. I love utilizing TF-CBT because it approaches trauma in a less scary way. Rather than diving into past traumas we first focus on the here and now and how traumatic experiences are impacting our life. Once we feel things are stabilized in the present moment we will then focus on processing past traumatic experiences if we feel that is needed. I have found this to be an incredibly effective mode of therapy that helps address traumatic experiences in a more manageable way.
